DIESEL FUEL COSTS MAYBE GOOD FOR TRUCKING? Diesel fuel costs are rising so how could this be good for trucking? Something to think about: Freight shipments are up. Seven-tenths percent in June. People are still buying – record sales. Products must be transported. Fuel costs increases are passed along to the consumer – no one else can afford to pay for it. Transportation rates are increasing faster than the cost of fuel. The higher cost of fuel is a visible sign that truckers need more money to deliver the goodies. Shippers expect the increase so the fuel surcharge is expected. Results may give the trucker the increase they have wanted for a long time and no one will complain except perhaps the consumer. But, if he wants the goodies he somehow finds the cash. He may gripe about it but he is still buying. Consumer demand for goods is strong. More truckers are needed. Give it a try. Now is a good time as ever. Maybe better!
